A lot of people tell you that if you really want to achieve your goals, you should tell everybody you know and make a big deal about them so you’ll be “accountable”. Personally, I think you should keep your goals under wraps – the more important a goal is to you, the fewer people you should tell. Loose lips sink ships, y’all.

Call me cynical, but people like to see other people fail – the more people who know about your goals, the more people you’ll have trying to hold you down. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s deliberate or even conscious most of the time, but that doesn’t keep it from happening.

I applaud you keeping your goals to yourself – tell the people that have to know, and maybe a close friend or two who can be trusted, but leave the rest of the world in the dark. Besides, it makes for a big surprise when you finish.

I get stuck in a severely bad attitude and self loathing at times and find myself in need of someone or something to come and pull my head from my ass with extreme force. I have found one book that has done it for me twice now. Secret of the Ages by Robert Collier. It was written in 1914 I think so the language is old and the meter takes some getting use to as does the many religious references (if you’re not a religious person) but it’s a gold mine for restoring hope.
