Today was my dad’s first dialysis since I’ve been here. Well, the first one I wasn’t kicked out of the room for I should say. So, I had direct orders, err, requests from my brother to make sure they didn’t take off too much fluid today because that seems to be the problem and why he keeps passing out and ending up in the hospital.

So, when we got to the center I went back with him and brought up the weight issue and the concern with them constantly removing too much fluid. The RN (who happened to be the center manager) seemed to be blowing me off and making light of my concerns. It seemed as though he was saying I didn’t know what I was talking about and when I made the point that it was the DOCTOR’S ORDERS not mine he seemed to say that the doctor didn’t know what he was talking about. Needless to say I was reaching in my back pocket to put my bitch cap on when he announced that he would be taking off 2kg — the exact amount he was supposed to take off.

So, you may be wondering how my dad did in dialysis today. Surprise, surprise, he did GREAT. Hmm, maybe the doctors do know a LITTLE.

His blood pressure when he started was 171/90. All through dialysis his blood pressure stayed in the 161/83 range. After dialysis his blood pressure sitting was 161/84. When he stood up it was 98/52 but they redid it right away and it was 127/63. Seriously, I think he stood up too fast for the first one because it shouldn’t have gone up so much so quickly. (At least in my mind.)

When he weighed himself on the way out…EXACTLY what his goal is. Hmm…

The evening was great. We went out for dinner. He walked fine (no walker). He’s a little tired but nothing even remotely abnormal or concerning to me.

I’ll be going back with him next week to make sure this trend continues.

Till later…
